I was so thrilled to find a strand of natural golden rutilated quartz at a vendor's showroom recently. It is so interesting to look into the stones and see what's going on.
These earrings are a part of a collection featuring this rare stone and are cut and faceted into a teardrop shape. I have wired them with sterling silver with sterling silver French ball earwires.
What Is Rutilated quartz?? Quartz which contains acicular (needle-like) inclusions of rutile. These inclusions mostly look golden, but they also can look silver, copper red or deep black. They can be distributed randomly or in bundles, which sometimes are arranged star-like, and they can be sparse or dense enough to make the quartz body nearly opaque. While otherwise inclusions often reduce the value of a crystal, rutilated quartz in fact is valued for the quality and beauty of these inclusions.
